Missionary Dwight Davidson
A New Van Has the Mission Going

Dwight DavidsonOur Missionary to Yokohama, Japan, Rev. Dwight Davidson, shared with us during his visit last winter that the ministry needed a new van to expand outreach and ministry opportunities. We received this note from Rev. Davidson last week...

This is a quick note to thank so many of you for the prayers and financial gifts you offered this past year for a van--I went and picked up our "new" van just last week!

New Van for the Yokohama, Japan MissionIt's a two and a half year old Toyota Voxy with eight seats, which is fantastic. It's in great shape and has travelled just a little over 9,000 miles. Since a Kanto Gakuin High School teacher I worked with last term knew the dealer personally, we got a good deal at a little over $16,000 USD. So thanks to all of you who sacrificially gave to the J-Team Auto Fund to make this a reality!

On the home front, Kari and the kids will be arriving here in Japan in one week. Kari's busy packing and saying goodbyes to family and friends, and I've been quite busy getting ready for their arrival, too--I just finished putting the last coat of paint on the last re-painted room last night!

Thanks as well for your prayers concerning the "Christianity and Western Culture" class at the Human Environmental Sciences Department. As you know, I was at first quite nervous about trying this in Japanese, but the students have been pretty understanding on the whole (all 227 of them!). As an introduction to Christianity, we watched the film called, "Jesus of Nazareth" last week and I was surprized at the reactions--when I turned the lights back on at the end of the movie, a number of kids up in the front of the room (where I can see them clearly) had obviously been crying! We'll have a good follow-up discussion next week, I'm sure. There are parts of that particular movie that bother me (as is the case with almost any "Jesus" movie!), but it's good to be reminded again that a simple recounting of the life of Jesus can be a powerful witness to the new life found through him.

Well, I mostly just wanted to say "Thanks!" again, and God's blessings on you as you share love with those around you.

Grace & Peace,

Dwight
